Does fit apply to all solar PV installations?
This three-band structure only applies to Solar PV installations accredited after April 2012 and does not apply to the other technology types regardless of commissioning date. You can find the full tariff bandings in the Feed-in-Tariff (FIT): Tariff table spreadsheets available below.
How do tariff rates for solar PV installations work?
The amount of generation which is deemed to be exported is set by the Secretary of State for the Department of Energy Security and Net Zero each year in their annual determinations. Tariff rates for Solar PV installations are uniquely split into Higher, Middle and Lower bands.
Can solar panels be sold back to the National Grid?
Customers looking to install solar panels on their home can sell excess electricity back to the National Grid. The current scheme for exporting electricity is called the Smart Export Guarantee (SEG) which replaced the feed-in tariff (FIT) scheme in 2020.
How much does a solar PV installation cost?
With the average cost of a solar PV installation around £6,500, some households may struggle to see financial benefits over the lifetime of the panels, although other environmental benefits may tip the scales. 1. Solar panels for homes 2. Feed-in tariff 3. Smart Export Guarantee 4. Is solar a good investment? 5. Summary
How long do solar panels stay on a fit tariff?
Customers who signed up to a specific FIT rate were guaranteed to stay on that tariff for 20 years (reduced from 25 at launch), but customers who installed solar panels on their properties later continue to get a significantly lower return than those who installed them at the peak in 2010-2012.
Can I switch energy suppliers with solar panels?
The company paying your subsidy is known as your FIT/SEG licensee – but they don’t need to also be your energy supplier. You can actually have separate contracts for your energy supply and your export payments. Switching energy suppliers with solar panels doesn’t need to affect your export tariff contract at all.
