Who owns SunEdison?
SunEdison Inc., which builds and operates renewable power plants that use solar and wind energy, was bought by MEMC Electronic Materials in 2009. In 2013, MEMC adopted the SunEdison name to reflect a more concentrated focus on solar energy.
Who is SunEdison?
SunEdison AG is a leading edge European photovoltaic module developer and manufacturer of high performance solar technology. There’s a lot to know when it comes to solar. From selecting the optimal site to asset management, it takes an expert. That’s why we’re here. SunEdison is expanding!
What does SunEdison produce?
SunEdison's solar materials group produces granular polysilicon, silicon-crystal ingots, silicon wafers, and specifies the production of solar cells and solar modules. It produces granular polysilicon in purities usable in the solar and semiconductor industries.
Is SunEdison a good solar company?
SunEdison is one example of a solar company that experienced the full cycle of boom and bust in just a few short years. MEMC Electronic Materials, a supplier of silicon wafers to semiconductor and photovoltaic cell companies, entered the solar industry in 2006, and gained ground quickly in the solar wafer market by the following year.
Why has SunEdison blown up?
The past 12 months have been rough on many US solar power companies, including SunPower and Elon Musk’s SolarCity, but SunEdison is the only one to have blown up in such a spectacular fashion. The root cause of this is its complex financial structure. Solar power is fundamentally a low-risk business.
Does SunEdison have a technological advantage?
SunEdison did not have any clear technological advantage. Instead, it offered what Brian Wuebbels, then chief financial officer, described in 2014 as “capital innovation”. It was one of the first companies to launch a new structure for holding renewable energy assets, known as a “ yieldco ”.
