How do inverters affect a grid-connected PV system?

The control performance and stability of inverters severely affect the PV system, and lots of works have explored how to analyze and improve PV inverters’ control stability .
What does a PV inverter do?
PV inverters serve three basic functions: they convert DC power from the PV panels to AC power, they ensure that the AC frequency produced remains at 60 cycles per second, and they minimize voltage fluctuations. The most common PV inverters are micro-inverters, string inverters, and power optimizers (See Figure 5). Figure 5.
How intelligent is a PV inverter system?
Although various intelligent technologies have been used in a PV inverter system, the intelligence of the whole system is still at a rather low level. The intelligent methods are mainly utilized together with the traditional controllers to improve the system control speed and reliability.
What is the difference between a grid-connected inverter and a PV string?
The total extracted power from PV strings is reduced, while the grid-connected inverter injects reactive power to the grid during this condition. It is pointed out that for simulation of power system transients, the PV inverter can be modeled in different ways, including the detailed “switched” or “topological” model, and the average-value model.
