How many states have set Renewable Portfolio Standards?

At least 29 U.S. states have set renewable portfolio standards—policies that mandate a certain percentage of energy from renewable sources. More than 100 cities worldwide now boast receiving at least 70 percent of their energy from renewable sources, and still others are making commitments to reach 100 percent.

Should fossil fuels be renewable?

That vision is laid out here, and while his analysis is not without critics, it punctuates a reality with which the world must now reckon. Even without climate change, fossil fuels are a finite resource, and if we want our lease on the planet to be renewed, our energy will have to be renewable.

How much solar power does the NWPG generate?

The total installed capacity of solar PV in the NWPG in 2016 amounted to 27.37 GW, accounting for 13.8% of the total solar power produced in the State Grid, whereas the total PV generation in the NWPG was 25.72 TWh, accounting for 4.57% of the total generation.

Can coal-fired self-supply plants be replaced with renewable power plants?

In 2016, the government published Regulations on Replacing Coal-fired Self-supply Plants with Renewable Power Plants by Peak Shaving, regulating power trading between self-supply and renewable power plants ( NEA- Office of Xinjiang Supervision, 2016 ). Specifically, thermal plants can sell their self-supply quota to renewable energy plants.

What reflects the growth in power supply in the NWPG?

The growth in power supply in the NWPG reflects the large investments made in this area. By the end of 2017, the total installed power in the NWPG reached more than 200 GW, of which thermal power accounted for 51%, hydro power 13%, wind power 20%, solar PV power about 15%, and other sources 1%.
